Industrial Influence: Gary Numan

Gary Numan may have become famous for the euro-pop songs “Cars” and “Are ‘Friends’ Electric” back in 1979, but his sound today is heavily rooted in Industrial. I would consider him to be one of the first of his kind, infusing electronic music and rock.

So when a godfather of a genre releases an album, you should pay attention. His last album to date, Splinter (Songs from a Broken Mind), was released in 2013. I had my head so buried in the NIN album Hesitation Marks (Deluxe Edition)
, that I didn’t notice. I know, shame on me. Ten years after Hybrid, my favorite albums of his, I have a new favorite.

The best part is that the album is available with Amazon Prime, or you can buy it for just $5 right now. If the price changes at some point, it’s not my fault!

Gary has undoubtedly influenced me, as well as so many other musicians. And while he may not be mainstream at this point in time, his music is on the top of my charts right now.
